Roles and Responsibilities of NMMC Water Testing Laboratory Staff

The NMMC Water Testing Laboratory operates with a skilled team ensuring high-quality and safe drinking water for Navi Mumbai. The Lab Incharge leads administratively and technically, while the Lab Chemist supervises analytical operations. Assistant Chemists, Field Chemists, and Pollution Inspectors conduct precise testing as per ISO 9001:2015 standards. The non-technical team handles administration and procurement, and Laboratory Attendants support with sample preparation and lab maintenance.

  1. Lab Incharge

    • Administrative and technical head of the laboratory.
    • Acts as the authorized signatory for regulatory sample analysis reports.
    • Responsible for overall laboratory management and resource allocation.
    • Implements NMMC and quality management policies effectively.
    • Oversees continuous improvement in accordance with NMMC rules and regulations.

  2. Lab Chemist

    • Supervises the analytical work of Assistant Chemists.
    • Acts as the technical head and authorized signatory.
    • Ensures availability of necessary resources for water sample testing.
    • Provides technical guidance and manages the laboratory's testing operations.

  3. Assistant Chemist / Field Chemist / Pollution Inspector

    • Qualified and skilled technical staff for accurate water testing.
    • Performs tests using standard methods in accordance with ISO 9001:2015.
    • Ensures timely analysis and reporting of water sample results.

  4. Clerks & Peons (Non-Technical Staff)

    • Manage administrative and support functions within the laboratory.
    • Handle procurement of equipment, resources, and essential services.

  5. Laboratory Attendant

    • Prepares media and reagents, sterilizes equipment, and maintains lab hygiene.
    • Assists Chemists during analytical procedures and testing workflows.
