Environment Department

The Environment Department of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is responsible for various initiatives such as water quality monitoring, wastewater treatment, and waste management. It also ensures the supply of safe drinking water through the Water Testing Laboratory and enforces regulations for solid waste segregation and scientific disposal.

Water Testing Laboratory

The Water Testing Laboratory of NMMC plays a crucial role in ensuring the availability of safe and high-quality drinking water across the city. The laboratory continuously monitors the water quality throughout Navi Mumbai's extensive water supply network, covering residential, commercial, and industrial areas.

To maintain health and safety standards, the laboratory collects samples from various water sources within the municipal limits and carries out detailed analysis. Regular testing ensures that citizens receive clean, safe, and standards-compliant drinking water.

Pollution Control Cell

This cell is responsible for monitoring and regulating air, water, and soil pollution levels within the municipal area. It also ensures compliance with national environmental regulations.

Solid Waste Management Department

This department handles the scientific collection, segregation, and disposal of solid waste, as well as the management of e-waste and hazardous waste. It enforces mandatory wet/dry waste segregation and oversees planning for waste-to-energy projects. The Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) supervises this department along with the Tree Authority.

Sewerage Engineering Department

This department manages the city's various Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), ensuring that 100% of the sewage generated in NMMC is treated. The treated water is reused for industrial and other non-potable purposes.
